Two adults and one juvenile are facing charges following an alleged armed robbery of an electric bike and the discovery of narcotics in a suspect vehicle in Ansonia on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a reported armed robbery in which a juvenile claimed that he was robbed of his electric bike, according to the Ansonia Police Department.
The juvenile said that the suspect took the e-bike after displaying a firearm, police said.
According to police, responding officers observed another individual riding the stolen bike shortly after the incident and found the bike abandoned on Sunset Drive, where it was recovered.
As additional officers and detectives were conducting surveillance in the area, they located a vehicle that was suspected of containing one of the suspects, police said.
Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop. One of the suspects, a 17-year-old juvenile, was located in the car and taken into custody. According to police, officers allegedly recovered a loaded firearm and narcotics from the juvenile.
The 17-year-old was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count each of conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, carrying a pistol without a permit, second-degree larceny and interfering with a police officer and was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport.
Police said the other suspect was identified and an additional arrest is expected in the robbery investigation.
As a result of the motor vehicle stop, additional narcotics were allegedly located in the vehicle and the two other occupants were taken into custody, according to police. While in custody, one of the suspects allegedly attempted to conceal additional narcotics and resisted being searched before the narcotics were recovered, police said.
Sheldon Haley, 45, of Ansonia was charged with possession of a controlled substance. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
Kylen Sanders, 31, of West Haven was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count each of possession of narcotics with intent, tampering with evidence and interfering with a police officer. According to police, he allegedly refused to be processed and fingerprinted and was additionally charged with failure to be fingerprinted. He was held on a $50,000 bond and was arraigned in Derby Superior Court on Wednesday.
