DeLisha Milton-Jones gains 100th victory as ODU women’s head coach

DeLisha Milton-Jones’ 100th victory as the Old Dominion women’s head basketball coach was among the most lopsided in school history.

Simaru Fields led ODU with 14 points, Simone Cunningham added 11 and Kelsey Thompson had 10 as the Monarchs rolled past Elizabeth City State 106-32 Friday night in Norfolk.

The 74-point margin was ODU’s largest ever in Chartway Arena, which opened in 2002, and the Monarchs’ largest win margin since a 116-26 triumph over Indiana State in 1996-97, when the Monarchs were the NCAA runners-up.

It was the first time ODU scored in triple digits since 2004, when the Monarchs defeated Hofstra 105-62.

Milton-Jones, who began her head-coaching career at Pepperdine, is 100-60 with ODU and 132-92 overall, including a Pepperdine stint.Her players doused her with their water bottles in the locker room.

“I’m appreciative of being able to be in the game this long and to have this type of success,” she said on odusports.com.Division II ECSU, 8-17 last season, was predicted 10th in the 12-team Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

No. 4 Texas 85, No. 24 Richmond 56: Madison Booker had 22 points, 12 rebounds and six steals for the Longhorns (2-0), who have won 26 straight games in Austin. Richmond (1-1) has lost 24 straight against teams ranked in the AP Top 25, dating to February 2006.

The Longhorns hit 54.7% from the field.

Maggie Doogan, the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year last season, led the Spiders with 22 points and seven rebounds.

No. 2 South Carolina 114, Bowling Green 47: Joyce Edwards scored 24 points and Mississipppi State transfer Medina Okot added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the host Gamecocks (2-0).

No. 8 Tennessee 97, East Tennessee State 47: Zee Spearman scored 24 points and Talaysia Cooper added 18 for Tennessee (1-1), which led 49-14 at halftime in Knoxville.
