Authorities are renewing their efforts to identify the remains of a woman 21 years after she was found dead behind a mini racetrack and arcade in New Jersey.
A work crew tasked with taking down trees in the area uncovered her body on Oct. 26, 2004 near the Malibu Grand Prix on Fellowship Road in Mount Laurel, which has since been abandoned, according to the local Patch. Police believe the woman was killed at some point during 2003.
In the years since, authorities have struggled to learn her name, but on Monday, investigators were able to release new information about Doe. After several attempts to obtain the victim’s DNA profile, forensic specialists made a breakthrough, giving investigators insight to her potential ethnicity, according to Ramapo College’s Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center.

Doe’s genetic relatives show she may be of central Eurasian descent — likely of the Turkic ethnic group, the center said, adding that she may be from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan or another country in central Eurasia.
“Getting her face and the details of her case out to the public, especially groups where people from her community may see her, will be the key to bringing Burlington County Jane Doe ‘home’ to her loved ones,” the center said in a statement.
Investigators also released a sketch of what Doe may have looked like before her death.
“It’s been 21 years since I disappeared — do you know my name?” reads a caption alongside the rendering.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Plainsboro Police Department.
