MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins second-year edge rusher Chop Robinson was subject to an injury scare in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots.
On a third-and-26 with the Patriots backed up, New England right tackle Morgan Moses went for a cut block and banged Robinson’s knee.
Robinson, in a web conference with reporters Monday morning, revealed his experience.
“When I was just getting off the ball, I wasn’t expecting for him to cut-block me like that,” said Robinson, who spent a few minutes down on the ground as he held his left knee. “Once I felt his helmet hit my knee, I kind of thought another thing, but once the trainers came out on the field and I realized I was good, it took everything off my back. I was just honestly ready to get back in the game.”
Robinson got up, first walking toward the sideline and eventually jogging.
With the Dolphins getting the stop defensively, the ensuing play was Malik Washington’s punt return touchdown. But the defense did not return to the field after the score, as it was followed by Patriots running back Antonio Gibson’s kickoff return touchdown.
The Dolphins offense went on a near five-minute drive, starting with 7:06 to play, so the defense didn’t come back onto the field until the final moments, but Robinson did return to action.
Robinson was asked Monday if he thinks cut blocks should be banned from the NFL.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s a potential risk for everybody who’s getting cut, whether it’s a receiver cutting a corner(back) or anything like that,” Robinson said. “It’s a high-risk injury when you’re getting cut, so they should do something about that. But can’t change it. … I don’t have control of that, so I just play the game.”
Robinson also had an injury scare in Detroit in a mid-August joint practice with the Lions. He took a hit to the ribs and was carted off, but he returned to the following day’s practice.
Robinson had two tackles and a sack Sunday, playing 24 defensive snaps (40 percent) off the bench and five on special teams.
Also injured for the Dolphins in Sunday’s game was safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, with a calf ailment.
