Dolphins’ De’Von Achane, Austin Jackson remain on track to play Week 1

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane and right tackle Austin Jackson continue to be on track to play the team’s opener Sept. 7 at the Indianapolis Colts.

“All indications for us is that Achane will be ready Week 1 to go,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Wednesday morning, as he assessed the state of his roster ahead of the 2025 regular season.

Achane, though, was not participating in the Dolphins’ Wednesday afternoon practice, a day after trimming their roster to the initial 53. Grier’s words, however, indicate the Dolphins are merely continuing to be cautious with Achane’s calf, as coach Mike McDaniel has said, while Achane progresses towards playing the regular season opener.

Achane first had the calf issue pop up Aug. 13 after it appeared he made it through the Dolphins’ first joint practice with the Detroit Lions, but he wasn’t practicing the next day at the Lions’ facility.

Jackson was seen back at practice Wednesday for the first time since early in camp with an undisclosed lower-extremity injury.

McDaniel, this week, said he was still on track to play against the Colts. For the majority of camp, backup tackle Larry Borom worked at his right tackle spot. The Dolphins also brought back veteran Kendall Lamm as a reinforcement, Grier said Wednesday.

Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was not practicing Wednesday, as he continues to recover from an oblique injury that cost him the past three weeks of practice and preseason.

Running back Jaylen Wright (lower body) and cornerback Ethan Bonner (hamstring) were not practicing Wednesday. Safety Ashtyn Davis worked out on the side.

Practice squad additions

Twelve players were already officially on the team’s practice squad at the time of the Dolphins’ Wednesday practice: safety John Saunders, cornerback Cornell Armstrong, cornerback BJ Adams, outside linebacker Quinton Bell, outside linebacker Derrick McLendon, offensive lineman Braeden Daniels, offensive lineman Josh Priebe, wide receiver Theo Wease, tight end Hayden Rucci, wide receiver AJ Henning, defensive tackle Alex Huntley and kicker Riley Patterson.

Patterson is expected to be elevated for the team’s first three games as starting kicker Jason Sanders is on injured reserve for a hip ailment to start the season.

Additionally, running back Jeff Wilson Jr. is being brought back to the Dolphins on the practice squad, according to ESPN.

A couple of Dolphins cuts were picked up by other teams for their practice squads. Wide receiver Erik Ezukanma was picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and offensive tackle Ryan Hayes went to the Atlanta Falcons.
