Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks was a key cog in the team’s effort to stop the rushing attack of Bijan Robinson and the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, and he was recognized for it Wednesday.

Brooks was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after he notched 10 tackles, three for loss, and a sack in Sunday’s 34-10 win at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Brooks was all over the field in the first half Sunday, recording six of his tackles, five being solo, all three tackles for loss and his sack before halftime. He is the only NFL player this season to record such a stat line in a half and first Dolphins player since defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in 2015.

Brooks became the first Dolphins player to earn a weekly award in 2025. The last Miami defender to win AFC Defensive Player of the Week was fellow linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who did it in Week 17 last season.

Brooks leads the NFL with 85 tackles through eight weeks of the league’s season. He is a captain this year after signing with Miami in the 2024 offseason following four years with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Dolphins entered Sunday’s game against the Falcons as the league’s worst run defense, but after holding Atlanta to 45 rushing yards, the fewest allowed by the team since holding the New York Jets to 23 in a 2023 win, the team is now 28th against the run.
