A man accused of causing a fatal crash in Hartford after fleeing a traffic stop on Sunday has died days after the collision, police said.
Officers responded to the report of a serious two-vehicle collision just before midnight on Sunday in the area of Albany Avenue between Homestead and Mark Twain Drive, according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.
Responding officers located a Ford Fiesta off of the south side of Albany Avenue against a fence and an Infinity G30 in the middle of the road in flames, Boisvert said.
The Ford driver, identified as 25-year-old Adrian L. Service of Hartford, was found unresponsive inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene after he was extricated from the vehicle, according to Boisvert.
The Infiniti driver, identified as 34-year-old Jammie Martin of Hartford, was ejected from the vehicle and was found unresponsive lying in the roadway. He was transported to Saint Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Wednesday, Boisvert said.
Police allege that Martin had fled a traffic stop just moments before the collision. Boisvert said at a news briefing on Monday that patrol officers spotted the Infiniti headed west on Albany Avenue and noticed multiple motor vehicle violations before initiating a stop in the area of Garden Street. According to Boisvert, Martin driver allegedly fled “at a very high rate of speed,” and officers did not pursue the vehicle.
As Martin continuing traveling west on Albany Avenue, he allegedly lost control and entered the eastbound lane, colliding with a Ford Fiesta, Boisvert said.
Officers at the scene allegedly found a firearm and unspecified drugs in Martin’s vehicle, according to Boisvert. Investigators also allegedly found that he was on the deadly weapons offender registry, Boisvert said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Hartford Fire Marshal and the Hartford Police Department’s Crime Scene Division.
