A motorist struck a utility pole on Route 4 in Burlington in the early morning hours Wednesday, breaking the pole and leading to a transformer leak that was expected to keep the road closed for an extended period of time.
The crash occurred in the area between Mountain Spring Road and Vineyard Road sometime around 3:30 a.m., according to the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department and the state Department of Transportation.
The collision led to the pole breaking and downed wires, fire officials said. A transformer also leaked and the pavement of the road burned, according to firefighters.
It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.
According to fire officials, Route 4 was expected to be closed for “an extended period of time” while crews from the DOT and Eversource made repairs.
