Driver, possible passengers take off on foot after four-car crash on I-84 off-ramp, state police say

At least one person took off on foot after allegedly causing a four-car crash on an Interstate 84 off-ramp in Plainville on Monday, sending one person to the hospital.

The chain-reaction of crashes occurred just after 8:15 p.m. on the I-84 East Exit 35 ramp where the driver of a 2003 Lexus GS 300 struck the rear of a 2017 Nissan Sentra, according to Connecticut State Police.

The Sentra driver and the drivers of two vehicles in front were slowing down for traffic congestion ahead of them at the time of the crash, state police said, adding that the driver of the Lexus reportedly did not slow down prior to the collision. The crash caused the Sentra to strike the rear of a 2015 Toyota Rav4, which then struck the rear of a 2014 Rav4, according to state police.

After the collisions, state police said the driver of the Lexus and “potential occupants” took from the scene on foot.

The driver of the Sentra was taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut for what was believed to be a minor injury, state police said. Both drivers of the Rav4s that were involved reported no injuries.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Trooper Adam Baig at Adam.Baig@CT.gov.
