Eagles Report Card: Grading the victory over the Packers

The Eagles earned a hard-fought, 10-7 road win against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. Here’s how they graded out by position group.

Quarterback: B-

Jalen Hurts was steady if unspectacular: 15-of-26 for 183 yards and a 36-yard touchdown to DeVonta Smith, with one costly early fumble that stalled a promising drive. He managed the game, avoided late mistakes and hit the night’s biggest throw, but the passing game sputtered for long stretches.

Running back: C+

Saquon Barkley’s volume (22 carries) didn’t yield much efficiency (60 yards), though his downhill work helped salt clock late and he added a chunk catch to flip field position. Production was modest against a fast Green Bay front, but the backs protected the ball and the pocket when asked.

Wide receiver: B-

DeVonta Smith delivered the game’s signature offensive play — the 36-yard touchdown that made it 10-0 — and finished with a team-best 69 receiving yards on four catches. The group didn’t overwhelm and often failed to achieve separation, but it came through on assignments in leverage moments and blocked adequately on the perimeter.

Tight end: C

A quiet receiving night and limited explosives over the middle. The unit’s best work showed up in chipping edges and helping a banged-up line through a low-margin, field-position game. No major busts, but little in the way of chain-moving targets.

Offensive line: C+

Philadelphia controlled the ball for 32:05 and allowed the offense to function, but penalties (7 for 61) and inconsistency on early downs left too many third-and-longs. The injured group battled through in-game shuffling and did enough late, yet the run lanes were sporadic and protection leaked at times.

Defensive line: A

The tone of the night. The front limited Green Bay to 261 total yards and only seven points, winning critical downs and forcing a hurried operation for QB Jordan Love. New acquisition Jaelan Phillips flashed immediately (six tackles, multiple QB hits and a fumble recovery), and the interior closed space against the run. Production plus situational stops warrant top marks.

Linebacker: A-

Rangy, physical and opportunistic. The LBs fit the run against Josh Jacobs for most of the night, rallied to the ball and contributed to the fourth-down stop that flipped the final minutes. Nolan Smith’s return impact (two tackles, a sack and a QB hit) showed up in Green Bay’s cadence and protection calls.

Cornerback: B

Disciplined over the top and tackled the underneath game that Green Bay leaned on. There were a few third-down completions surrendered, but no explosive breakdowns and solid leverage in the red zone. Kept the Packers from flipping the game with a shot play.

Safety: A-

Clean angles all night, plus physical support near the line. Reed Blankenship’s involvement in a forced fumble and a late fourth-down stuff underscored a unit that read keys and finished tackles. Communication was strong in a loud road environment.

Special teams: B

Jake Elliott drilled a 39-yarder for the first points of the game, coverage units were sturdy, and the operation handled Lambeau without miscues. The defense’s end-game stand forced Green Bay into a desperation 64-yard attempt that missed, sealing the result.

Coaching: B-

Vic Fangio’s defense owned the night with planning, adjustments and execution, and deserves an A+. Offensively, however, sequencing was choppy and Philadelphia’s risk calculus drew scrutiny — notably the go-for-it decision on fourth-and-6 in the fourth quarter that gave the Packers a short field before the last-ditch kick. The Packers’ defense does deserve some credit though.
