Elgin seeking evergreen/fir tree for city holiday display

The city of Elgin is accepting submissions for a donated evergreen tree that will be set up on downtown DuPage Court as the city’s 2025 holiday tree.

Trees proposed for the honor by their owners must be between 30 and 40 feet tall, in good health and within 30 miles of the city. The evergreen types preferred are Norway spruce, Colorado blue spruce and firs. Pine trees will not be considered.

Tree owners must include their name, address, email, phone number and a brief explanation of why their tree should be chosen. Submissions also must include at least four photos of the tree showing its height, circumference and overall health.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 26. Finalist tree owners must be available for a site visit by the city’s technical team to ensure the tree meets all requirements before the selection is made and plans to cut down the tree are arranged.

The winning tree will be announced in early November. For more information, go to bit.ly/3KXUuOo. To submit your tree, email specialevents@elginil.gov.
