Habitat for Humanity to auction Planet Earth scuptures
Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley will auction off the Home Planet Earth sculptures on display in the Elgin area this summer at a gala from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at The Highland Lofts in downtown Elgin.
The evening will feature silent and live auctions, dinner, drinks and activities, according to a social media post. Attendees are encouraged to “dress to the nines” for the event.
More than 30 fiberglass sculptures of buzzing bumblebees, butterfly benches and big globes painted by local artists were on display in public spaces to promote Habitat’s Carter Crossing project in Carpentersville. Money from their sale will benefit families seeking affordable housing, the post said.

Carpentersville firefighters selling Hispanic Heritage clothing
The deadline to purchase bomberos-style T-shirts and sweatshirts from Carpentersville firesfighter to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month is Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Ovarian cancer research benefit at Black & Gray Brewing
A fundraiser to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Black & Gray Brewing Company, 311 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.
The event will include a raffle, silent auction and beverages, according to the alliance’s website. Teal ribbons marking September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness month will be sold for $5 each. Event organizers hope to raise $5,000.
The nonprofit is the world’s largest organization dedicated to fighting ovarian and gynecological cancers while supporting patients and their families, according to the its website.

Free admission for grandparents Sunday at Randall Oaks Zoo
Grandparents get in free to Randall Oaks Zoo on Sunday, Sept. 7, with the purchase of child’s admission.
The promotion celebrates National Grandparents Day, according to the Dundee Township Park District website. Congress passed legislation in 1978 declaring the first Saturday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day.
The West Dundee zoo at 1180 N. Randall Road will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, free for adults with military ID and children age 1 and younger.

South Elgin conducting housing needs survey, chat with president
South Elgin is conducting an online public survey on housing needs, priorities and preferences and will be hosting a chat with the village president next week.
