En’Dya Buford had 26 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and three steals as the Old Dominion women earned a split of their MAC-SBC Challenge games for the year, winning 84-76 Saturday at Ohio University in Athens.
Buford was 5 of 10 from 3-point range. A Buford 3-pointer with 6:20 to go gave the Sun Belt’s Monarchs the lead for good, 71-70. They lost at home to new Mid-American Conference member Massachusetts to start the year.
ODU (15-10) got 11 points from Jaylen Ponder and 10 points and four rebounds from Kelsey Thompson; both came off the bench. Simaru Fields had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Bella Ranallo scored 15 for the Bobcats (13-9).
Johnson & Wales-Charlotte 102, Regent 45: The host Wildcats (14-5) dominated the Royals (4-15) in a clash of two of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference’s newest members.
No. 1 Connecticut 80, Butler 48: Azzi Fudd scored 15 of her 17 points in the first half as the Huskies won their 41st game in a row.
Serah Williams, Ashlynn Shade and Allie Ziebell had 11 points each and KK Arnold finished with 10 points for UConn (25-0, 14-0) as the Huskies won their 62nd consecutive Big East regular-season game. UConn sophomore star Sarah Strong missed her first game in her two seasons for the Huskies for rest.
Caroline Dotsey led Butler (9-15, 3-11) with 13 points, but the Bulldogs lost their fourth game in a row.
Christopher Newport 69, Mary Washington 46: The Captains (17-4) gradually pulled away from the rival Eagles (9-13) at Freeman Center.
Elizabeth Creed had 10 points, four rebounds, five steals and two blocks for CNU. Sydney Richardson had 12 points and four assists, and Mia Wilson had 11 points and five assists.
Juliona Mabie scored 10 for UMW, which shot just 34% (17 of 50).
