Several families throughout Connecticut have turned to GoFundMe for help, whether as victims of a tragic fire, a workplace or car accident, or to fund a pet’s recovery.
Here is a roundup of a few local campaigns you can help support:

Support Luis Alberto Morocho’s Final Farewell
On Aug. 21, 2025, our family experienced an unimaginable loss when our beloved father, Luis Alberto Morocho, tragically passed away due to a work-related accident. His passing was sudden and heartbreaking, leaving us with a void that can never be filled.
Luis was a hardworking, kind, and devoted father who always put his family first. He touched the lives of everyone around him with his generosity, love, and strength. Losing him so unexpectedly has left us not only grieving but also facing the financial challenges of arranging his funeral and final farewell.
We have created this fundraiser to help cover the unexpected costs of funeral services, related expenses, and the repatriation of Luis to his home country, so that he may rest in peace surrounded by his loved ones.
Support the Pellegrino, LaChat Family After Fire
On the evening of Aug. 23, the Pellegrino/LaChat family received an alarming phone call. Their home had caught fire. In moments, they lost everything. Their clothing, furniture, keepsakes and family photos have been damaged beyond saving and they are devastated by the loss of their beloved dogs, Blu and Lucy.
My name is Briana Pellegrino and I am raising funds for my Aunt, Joey Pellegrino LaChat, her husband Joe LaChat, and my cousins David (Marissa, Dominic (4), & Lorenzo (7m), Gloria and Gaetano (Guy) who shared this home together. Our family is both immensely grateful they weren’t harmed, but deeply saddened for the loss of Blu and Lucy.
As they navigate this difficult time, our goal is to ease their burden and show them they are not alone in this trial. While their memories will remain, they must begin the long road of rebuilding their future. Any contribution will make a meaningful difference as they work to recover from their loss. Donations will help provide relief as they manage securing temporary housing and replacing clothing and essentials.
Support Sage’s Road to Recovery
On Aug. 21, our lives were forever changed when my sister Sage/Rayzel was critically injured in a devastating car accident. She faces many life altering critical injuries causing extensive physical damage. Since then, she has undergone numerous surgeries and continues to face a long and difficult road to recovery.
This journey has taken a toll not just physically, but emotionally and financially. Between travel to Denver and trying to maintain a sense of normalcy for her young son, the strain has been overwhelming.
We are reaching out to our community — friends, family, and kind strangers — to ask for help.
Support The Cosmic Background’s Diverse Voices
For two years, The Cosmic Background has been the world’s premier venue for flash fiction. We’ve published dozens of works, enough creative fiction to fill an anthology, poetry, non-fiction, and Always Human Created artwork, by our stellar artist, Niv Sekar.
Over the previous two years, we’ve Kickstarted our way to funding, but this year we’re going a different route. GoFundMe gives us far greater flexibility to use our raised funds throughout the year, in the ways in which they’ll do the most good. We’re better able to pivot to suit the needs of our writers, artists, and readers. To reflect that, we’re looking to raise substantially less than in previous years.
Help us continue to make the world a better, fairer, more progressive place for readers, writers, and artists. You all are a fierce light, in an increasingly dim world.
Help Hyatt Heal After His Accident
Yesterday, my dog Hyatt was hit by a motorcycle. We rushed him to the emergency vet. He broke one of his legs, fracturing both his radius and ulna. As well as other minor injuries across his body. He needs surgery in order to walk and heal properly.
Hyatt is truly my soul dog. He has been my best friend, my comfort, and my joy.
Unfortunately, the cost of emergency care and surgery is overwhelming. As a teacher and graduate student, I’m doing everything I can to make sure Hyatt gets the treatment he needs, but the expenses are more than I can manage alone.
