Fast food stop teaches shoplifting suspects that felonies don’t come ‘with a side of fries’

A Connecticut woman was among two people whose apparent fast food craving landed them in police custody following a shoplifting in Massachusetts at a store just across the street from a Wendy’s restaurant.

The shoplifting was reported on Aug. 13 around 2 p.m. at a TJ Maxx in Auburn, Massachusetts, according to a news release posted to the Auburn Police Department’s Facebook page.

Police said an employee of the store reported that the thieves made off with more than $2,000 worth of merchandise before taking off in a black Ford Edge with Connecticut license plates.

“Apparently satisfied with their five-finger discount, the two decided to celebrate with a pit stop at Wendy’s because nothing says perfect getaway plan like sitting in a drive thru line for fast food…directly across the street from the store you just stole from,” police wrote.

According to police, a sergeant who was on duty — one who was “no stranger to the Wendy’s drive thru” — quickly located the vehicle.

“If Wendy’s had a frequent flyer program, he’d already have a lifetime platinum status,” police wrote.

“That is where the two women traded in their combo meals for a pair of handcuffs.”

Police said additional officers assisted and allegedly spotted more than $2,000 worth of stolen TJ Maxx merchandise in plain view inside the vehicle.

According to police, 38-year-old Dominque Marion of Worcester, Massachusetts and 24-year-old Tynaja Williams of New Haven were arrested and charged with larceny over $1,200 and conspiracy.

As police sorted through the stolen merchandise they reported finding items believed to have been stolen from stores in neighboring towns. Auburn police said they are working with nearby agencies to return the property and potentially pursue charges.

“Moral of the story: Felonies do not come with a side of fries,” police wrote.
