The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Orange County.
The crash occurred Monday night around 11 p.m., according to a press release from FHP. Officials said a 2003 Honda Accord was driving eastbound in the center lane on Silver Star Road toward Le Harve Blvd. A victim was walking south before entering the eastbound lanes of Silver Star Road. He didn’t cross in a marked crosswalk. The Honda driver crashed into the victim, then got out to help him.
Another vehicle, identified as a possibly gray or blue Chevy Malibu, was traveling eastbound on Silver Star Road toward Le Harve Blvd. They struck both the pedestrian and the Honda driver, according to the press release. Witnesses said the Malibu driver stopped, checked on both victims, then fled the scene. They described the driver as an adult Black male wearing a black hoodie. Authorities said the car should have front-end damage and should be missing a driver’s side mirror.
The Honda driver sustained minor injuries. First responders transported the pedestrian to the hospital, where they later pronounced him dead.
The crash remains under investigation.
