Field hockey 757Teamz Top 15: No. 6 Poquoson, No. 10 York could meet in key region semifinal

Top-ranked Tabb finished the field hockey regular season with a 2-0 victory over Nansemond River — the Tigers’ closest match after opening with a 5-2 win over Bishop O’Connell of Arlington. The Tigers are the top-seeded team in the Virginia High School League Class 3 Region A Tournament.

Elizabeth Trant notched a hat trick to fuel Poquoson’s 4-3 overtime win over York. The Islanders go into the Class 3 Region A bracket as the No. 2 seed and, barring any upsets, will likely host York in a semifinal for a spot in the state tournament.

Brayden Johnston totaled two goals and an assist as Nansemond River rolled past King’s Fork 10-0. The Warriors are the defending Class 5 state champions and enter the Region B Tournament as the third seed. Maury compiled a 6-0 Eastern District record en route to being named the top seed, followed by No. 2 Menchville.

Audrey Lukevics and Allie Tyszko had a goal apiece to lead Norfolk Academy to a 2-1 victory over First Colonial in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools and are looking for their fifth consecutive conference title.

Leah Orrock and Lily Bliven each tallied to lift Great Bridge over Indian River 2-0. The Wildcats finished 9-0 in the Southeastern District to clinch the top seed in a tantalizing Class 5 Region A bracket.

Seniors Sophia Lowry and Laila Manipon had a goal apiece as Hickory edged Western Branch 2-1 on Senior Day and claimed the No. 2 seed. Cox, which was powered with a four-goal and two-assist performance by Atalee Booth in a 6-0 win over Princess Anne on Senior Day, is the No. 3 seed and is responsible for the lone blemish on Great Bridge’s record.

First Colonial, last year’s Class 5 runner-up, is seeded fifth and begins tournament play at No. 4 Tallwood, whom the Patriots defeated 6-0 in the regular season. The semifinals are sure to be nervy clashes with state tournament appearances on the line.

Here are some other standout performances from last week:

**Zoey Dowdy recorded a season-high two goals and added two assists on Senior Night to lead Indian River to a 4-0 victory over Green Run.

**Captain Miley Slatter fired in the overtime winner to propel Kecoughtan to a 3-2 win over Warwick. The Warriors next play at Nansemond River in the Class 5 Region B quarterfinals.

**Kelsey Manugo, Maren Baxley, Vivian Myers and Charlotte Daugherty each had goals as Princess Anne routed Salem 9-0 on the Cavaliers’ Senior Night.
