Fire at Chesapeake hotel displaces several people

A fire at a Chesapeake hotel displaced several people early Tuesday morning, according to a release.

The Chesapeake Fire Department responded to a fire alarm just before 2:40 a.m. in the 2000 block of Old Greenbrier Road, at the Studios & Suites 4 Less hotel. When units arrived, they found a sprinkler system had activated on the second floor after a tenant experienced a small cooking fire on the stove, according to fire officials.

The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system, but extensive water damage affected multiple rooms on the first and second floors, according to the fire department.

Property management is working to relocate displaced residents into vacant rooms and when necessary, nearby hotels. It is not yet known how long residents will be displaced.

The fire was ruled accidental and no injuries were reported.
