Flood warning issued for Lehigh Valley after storms drop up to 3 inches of rain [PHOTOS]

Torrential rain from a line of thunderstorms moving across the Lehigh Valley on Thursday evening has prompted a flood warning for the region.

The warning was issued for Lehigh and Northampton counties through 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

As of around 10:30 p.m., between 1 and 3 inches of rain had fallen throughout the two counties, according to the weather service. An additional 1-2 inches of rain was possible as additional thunderstorms continued to move across the region.

Flooding was occurring or expected to begin shortly along some creeks and streams, as well as in low-lying and poor-drainage areas, the weather service warned.

Areas where flooding was possible included Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Emmaus, Forks Township, Glendon, Hellertown, Northampton, West Easton and Wilson, according to the weather service.

The Lehigh Valley wasn’t the only region impacted by the storms Thursday evening. In the Philadelphia area, a line of storms brought lightning that prompted an hour-long weather delay of the NFL season opener between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
