The body of William Eugene Ray, 83, was found in late September at The Waverly Assisted Living and Memory Care in Trinity, which is in Pasco County north of Tampa, according to Fox 13 News.
On Thursday, Ray’s daughter, Kristen Spencer, told the TV station her family had checked Ray into the facility when he started showing signs of dementia.
She said there weren’t any issues in the beginning, but the longer Ray stayed at the facility, “…you see things, and so you see these little things that start to send up concerns,” the TV station reported.
Spencer said she put a Ring camera in her father’s room to keep an eye on him. She noticed him acting abnormally one night, then saw the light in his room was on, but he wasn’t there.
She called Waverly and went to the facility. A staff member informed her they found her father in the freezer, according to Fox 13 News. The station said Pasco County Fire Rescue transported him to a medical facility where he was pronounced dead.
A spokesman from The Waverly shared a statement with the station regarding Ray’s death. They mentioned they weren’t allowed to comment on the incident, but they “cannot accept a false narrative being pressed upon our residents and their families.”
