Foo Fighters, who disappointed Connecticut audiences by canceling a festival appearance in Bridgeport a year ago, appear to be making up for it with a “surprise” show on Tuesday at Toad’s Place in New Haven.

The Toad’s Place gig was announced just one day before it was set to happen, mid-afternoon on Monday, and tickets went on sale at 4 p.m. At that time it was not yet listed on the tour page of the Foo Fighters website or on the Toad’s Place site but had been noted numerous places on social media.

There were a lot of conditions to the ticket sales, according to a posting on Foo Fighters’ Instagram account. The person purchasing tickets had to be the one attending the concert, with a two-ticket limit per person. Purchases could only be done through physical credit or debit cards. “Line cutting will not be permitted,” the rules specified.

The effort was worth it, since these tickets to see Foo Fighters, one of the most popular mainstream rock acts of the past 30 years, were only $30 apiece.

For those who got tickets there are more rules. Doors will open at 6 p.m. A physical ID will be matched to the original ticket order. Those who bought two tickets must bring the other person with them and enter the club together, otherwise the second ticket will be forfeited. You can not reenter if you leave during the show. All tickets are general admission, standing not seated. Very small bags (4 1/2 by 6 inches or smaller) are permitted, but cameras, food, drinks, gum, Sharpie pens and many other items are not.

The Foo Fighters’ world tour starts on Oct. 2 in Indonesia. The band’s most recent album is 2023’s “But Who We Are.” Foo Fighters was scheduled to play the Soundside Music Festival in Bridgeport in September 2024 but canceled the show days before it happened, presumably because of personal issues involving leader Dave Grohl which were dominating the news that month. The Foo Fighters were replaced at Soundside by Bleachers and Jack White. Coincidentally, White did his own short-notice surprise Toad’s show last year.

Toad’s Place, which turned 50 years old this year, has a history of major stars performing there. Some, such as U2, played there before they become world famous. Others, such as the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan, chose the venue to prepare for arena tours. Others, including BIlly Joel, used the intimacy of the club to record live albums.
