Forecast prompts Langley postponement
Because of a forecast calling for rain in Hampton, Langley Speedway postponed its second championship night of the year from Saturday to Nov. 1.
Yearly champs will be honored that night in the Late Model, Modified, Grand Stock, Pro Six and UCAR divisions. The other 2025 champions were crowned a week ago.

Tulane overcomes ECU
Jake Retzlaff passed for 347 yards and two touchdowns, and the Tulane defense batted down a pass in the end zone on the final play Thursday night to secure a 26-19 victory over East Carolina in New Orleans.
After ECU (3-3, 1-1 American) tied it at 19 with 5:48 left in the fourth quarter, Tulane (5-1, 2-0) went on a 12-play, 75-yard drive that took more than five minutes. Javin Gordon caught a short pass and ran untouched into the end zone with 35 seconds left for the lead.
ECU then marched downfield, aided by two pass-interference calls, to get to the Tulane 36-yard line. But Katin Houser’s Hail Mary pass was broken up as time expired. Tulane improved to 6-2 against ECU since the programs joined the American in 2014.

CNU hikes streak to six
Christopher Newport (14-6) extended its winning streak to six matches with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-14) triumph over Randolph-Macon (11-5) at Freeman Center.
Grassfield High alumna Maddie Hanes had a team-high 12 digs for CNU, Fielding Croft had 35 assists, and Alyssa Dozier had 10 kills and four blocks for CNU.
App State overtakes ODU
Old Dominion (3-13, 0-5 Sun Belt) led by two sets but lost 3-2 (22-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 18-16), at Appalachian State (12-4, 3-2), which overcame a 10-8 deficit in the fifth and saved a match point at 15-14.
Elisa Maggi scored 23 kills and Katie Rakoski had 13 kills to pace ODU. Kyra Hampton finished with 40 assists and 12 digs.
Tribe falls just short vs. first-place Towson
Coastal Athletic Association-leading Towson (16-2, 7-0) rallied past William & Mary 3-2 (19-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-15, 15-11) at Kaplan Arena, dropping the Tribe to 6-10, 1-4. W&M’s Katherine Arnason had 12 kills and Nicole Smith 11.
Hampton (1-17, 0-8 CAA) lost 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-13) at home to Hofstra (13-2, 6-2). The Pirates’ Katerina Pappa had eight kills and eight digs, and Ida Wiszomirska led them with 23 assists and eight digs.
South Carolina State (4-13, 1-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) handed a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-13) defeat to Norfolk State (1-17, 0-5) in Orangeburg. The Spartans’ Gabrielle Gilbert had 11 kills and three aces, while Mary Nahinu haed 15 digs.

ODU draws at South Carolina
Old Dominion (4-4-3, 1-1-2 Sun Belt) went to South Carolina and played a 1-1 draw with the Gamecocks (7-5-2, 1-2-1).
Lewis Rourke’s header off a Teagan Dunne pass put ODU on top in the 24th minute. The Gamecocks pulled even as ODU goalkeeper Michael Statham mishit a punch and the ball fell into the net. The goal was credited to Alexander Stjernegaard.
Notre Dame scores late for tie at No. 8 UVA
No. 8 Virginia (7-1-3, 3-0-3 ACC) played to a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame (7-2-3, 2-1-2) in Charlottesville, extending UVA’s unbeaten streak to eight matches.
AJ Smith netted a goal for UVA in the 20th minute, but Jack Flanagan countered in the 86th for the Irish to leave the Cavaliers feeling disappointed.

Regent drops shut out
Salisbury (3-8-4) beat Regent 4-0 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex despite Kristen Miller’s 13 saves. The Royals dropped to 1-10-3.
COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY
Emslie, ODU down Villanova
Sian Emslie had two goals and an assist Old Dominion (5-7, 3-1) beat Villanova 4-1 in a Big East game in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, though the Wildcats outshot the Monarchs 16-10.
Avery Jackson scored from an Emslie assist in the 12th minute. After Villanova pulled even in the 15th, Emslie put ODU ahead to stay in the 30th minute. Nicolette Saccomandi’s goal made it 3-1 in the 46th minute, and Emslie all but clinched the victory by scoring 57 seconds later.
No. 3 UNC blanks No. 2 UVA
No. 3 North Carolina beat No. 2 Virginia 1-0 in Charlottesville, thanks to Charly Bruder’s goal in the 52nd of 60 minutes.
The Cavaliers fell to 9-1, 5-1 ACC, while UNC improved to 11-1, 4-1. The Tar Heels outshot UVA 9-5.
Host Towson shut out William & Mary 2-0, though the Tribe (1-10, 0-2 CAA) generated six second-half penalty corners to the Tigers’ none. Towson is 6-7, 2-0.
Bridgewater (5-6, 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conferencescored twice at home in the second quarter to beat Virginia Wesleyan 2-0. The Marlins fell to 4-6, 1-2 despite DJ Holsclaw’s eight saves.
