Ex-ODU RB back in portal after leaving Terps
Former Old Dominion running back Trequan Jones, who previously signed with Maryland as a transfer, backed out of that commitment and re-entered the portal.
Jones rushed for 792 yards and six TDs in 2025. His average of 7.5 yards per carry ranked second in the FBS.
WR Courtney returning to Cavaliers
Wide receiver Kam Courtney plans to withdraw from the portal and return to Virginia, a source told Wahoos247. Courtney made 25 receptions for 234 yards in 2025 and rushed four times for 38 yards and a score.
Meanwhile, UVA signed Navy transfer cornerback Justin Ross of Gastonia, North Carolina. Ross made 32 tackles and defended four passes in 2025, including an interception.
Edge ends pledge to Hokies
Baylor transfer edge defender Kamauryn Morgan told 247 Sports he no longer plans to attend Virginia Tech and his transfer process is reopened. He had six tackles in 2025.
JMU loses, gains in portal movement
James Madison reserve defensive backs Milt Ferguson, who’s from Green Run High, and Phillip Harris are entering the transfer portal. Defensive end Jerald James also is in the portal, according to JMU Sports News.
But JMU landed former Florida offensive lineman Noel Portnjagin, according to his Instagram account. The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder from Germany was a backup for Gators teams guided by current JMU coach Billy Napier, playing five offensive snaps. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Duke QB Mensah goes to portal
Quarterback Darian Mensah, who led Duke to the ACC championship, has informed the Blue Devils he plans to enter the portal, sources confirmed to The Athletic.
Mensah signed a two-year contract last year, so it’s unclear what the buyout situation would be. Speculation surrounds Miami as his potential next school.

Admirals sign Savenkov after Zloty goes to AHL
Before the Norfolk Admirals began a two-game home series against ECHL North Division-leading Wheeling, they signed defenseman Dilan Savenkov to a standard contract.
Savenkov, 24, was playing in Finland’s second-tier pro league. In eight games for TuTo Turku, Savenkov logged one goal and four assists while earning a +12 rating.
From 2023-25, Savenkov played for six ECHL teams, most recently Utah and Savannah.
Thursday, the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose recalled defenseman Ben Zloty from the Admirals. In 29 games, the 23-year-old has four goals and a team-leading 20 assists. He entered the weekend sharing the team lead in points (24) with Brady Fleurent.
The Wheeling series is starting a seven-game homestand that runs through the end of January.

ODU begins year with wins, losses in Michigan
Old Dominion began its spring season by going 3-4 against Ohio State in singles and 2-1 versus Xavier in doubles at the Michigan Hidden Duals event in Ann Arbor.
Ulyana Romanova, Marina Markina and former Maury High state champion Mya Byrd won in singles, and the pairs of Markina-Uladzislava Manzhos and Lidiia Rasskouskaia-Ulyana Romanova won their sets.

No. 5 UVA opens season by beating No. 3 TCU
Virginia, ranked fifth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason poll, began its dual season with a flourish. The Cavaliers didn’t lose a set at the top four singles spots as they upended No. 3 TCU 6-1 Thursday in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Horned Frogs (1-1) won a pair of sets for the doubles point, but UVA’s Jangjun Kim, Dylan Dietrich, freshman Andres Santamarta Roig and Keegan Rice completed straight-sets victories on lines 3, 1, 4 and 2.
Dietrich, ranked 16th nationally in singles, overcame sixth-ranked Duncan Chan 6-4, 7-5. Rice, ranked 29th, gave UVA its clinching fourth point with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over 45th-ranked Cosme Rolland De Ravel, a former Old Dominion star.
With the team victory clinched, UVA’s Mans Dahlberg won on line 5 and Stiles Brockett won on line 6.
