“Saturday Night Live” alum Jorma Taccone is on the mend after falling 20 feet off a ladder last month.

On episode 75 of “The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast,” released on Tuesday, Taccone recorded his portion of the podcast from his hospital bed, sharing his experience with listeners and co-hosts Seth Meyers and his fellow Lonely Island members, Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer.

Taccone, who worked at “SNL” as a writer from 2005 to 2010, and appeared in some sketches, explained that the accident happened at his Connecticut farmhouse on Aug. 31 while he was working on a wall mural for his barn. Coincidentally, it happened to be the day of his daughter’s fifth birthday party.

That morning, Taccone decided to hang some lights at the top of the barn wall. “So I’m using this ladder that my neighbor let me borrow and he’s like, ‘Hey, this ladder is bad. You shouldn’t use this ladder. Like, it doesn’t have a footing thing. And I was like, ‘No, it’s really good,’” Taccone recounted.

While he did have a friend helping him with the task, the friend had went inside for water. Taccone decided to keep working in the interim, which is when the ladder lost its grounding.

“I felt it give way, like it’s starting to go, and I’m like, ‘Oh no.’ In this moment, my life flashes before my eyes,” Taccone revealed.

“And I’m like, ‘Oh no, I have to get off this ladder.’ I had enough time as I’m falling to be like, ‘I’m going to die.’”

The 48-year-old continued: “And I fall straight on my butt, taking all of the impact on the butt. Then I do a lot of screaming and cursing. Keep in mind, it’s my daughter’s 5th birthday party, so it wasn’t the coolest way to start the day. I’m like, ‘Call an ambulance!’”

Taccone learned at the hospital that he had shattered the left side of his pelvis, had his sacrum detach from his spine, broken his L5 lumbar vertebra, and injured a disc. At the time of the podcast’s recording, he was two days out of surgery. Doctors told him he can expect to walk again within 3 to 6 months.

Despite all, Taccone managed to slide in a few jokes during the podcast, proving his funny bone was still intact.
