Freeze watch issued for Lehigh Valley as temperatures set to plummet; forecasters keeping eye on possible coastal storm

Temperatures could drop to near freezing Thursday night in the Lehigh Valley, marking the first such occurrence this autumn.

The region will be under a freeze watch from 10 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday, meaning frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and could damage outdoor plumbing, according to forecasters.

Widespread frost is likely while a low of 34 is expected Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. The last time it was that cold in the region was in April.

Neighboring Monroe and Carbon counties are included in the watch area as well.

Showers this morning will give way to clearing skies, breezy, cooler, and drier conditions during the afternoon and into tonight. Lows tonight will be mainly in the 40s, upper 30s in the higher elevations north, and near 50° at the coast. #PAwx #NJwx #DEwx #MDwx pic.twitter.com/CBaSOqAK2r
