What improvements does UCF want to see from Game 1 to Game 2?
About UCF (1-0, 0-0 Big 12): The Knights overcame a two-hour weather delay to win 17-10 against Jacksonville State last Thursday, marking their 300th victory in program history. Quarterback Tayven Jackson stepped in for the injured Cam Fancher, completing 17 of 24 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Keli Lawson blocked a field goal, and Jayden Bellamy’s interception helped secure the win.
About North Carolina A&T (0-1, 0-0 CAA): The Aggies were unable to hold a 14-10 halftime lead as Tennessee State scored 14 second-half points to pull out a 24-21 victory last Saturday. NCAT had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but a 38-yard field goal attempt was blocked and recovered by TSU. Redshirt freshman quarterback Braxton Thomas stepped in for a struggling Champ Long to lead the team to two scores.
3 things to watch
1. UCF running back Myles Montgomery did yeoman’s work last Thursday, leading the team in rushing (79 yards) and receiving (71 yards) while taking part in 62 of 73 snaps on offense. Frost indicated the Knights need to give Montgomery help if they want to avoid wearing out the redshirt senior.
2. The Aggies have a handful of players from the Sunshine State, led by Thomas (Sarasota), safeties Jonathan Kimbrough-Campbell (Daytona Beach) and Tyler Howard (Tallahassee), tight ends Tony Sanchez (Gainesville) and Anthony Rucker (Orlando) and punter DJ Page (Lithia).
3. If the NCAA doesn’t reverse the first-half suspension of UCF linebacker Lewis Carter’s ejection for targeting last week, the Knights will have to pair Cole Kozlowski and Jayden McDonald with starter Keli Lawson in the first half.
