As the weather begins to cool and the corn stalks reach for the sky, farms begin planning for their annual corn maze adventures. Fun for the whole family, racing through a maze with corn way over your heads is inexpensive and great for fall. While you’re there, many of the farms have pumpkin patches and other activities for kids to enjoy. They also sell mums and pumpkins from the patch if you don’t want to pick your own.
Bring your family and friends, leave the cell phones tucked in your bag and have fun trying to find hidden surprises and the exit to acres upon acres of corn maze. Lyman Orchards is even hosting a beer tasting event in their corn maze for adults.
Wear sneakers you don’t mind getting dirty and a flashlight if you’re staying past dusk.
Foster Family Farm

The corn mazes at the Foster Family Farm are back in action. At the farm, two full-sized corn mazes stretch over eight acres of land and four miles of trails. Remember to bring a flashlight for when it gets dark. Have fun with your family and find surprises in the interactive maze. Opening day for the maze is Sept. 13 and it is open Saturdays and Sundays in September from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will continue to be open in October every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Night mazes begin on Sept. 20 and run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Most pumpkin patches and apple orchards come equipped with a corn maze — an intricate maze cut into a cornfield. It’s a fun activity when you want to enjoy fall’s fresh air — just don’t get lost!

The corn maze opens in Saturday, Aug. 30 inside the Orchard Festival grounds at Bishop’s Orchard. This year’s maze is pizza themed. The maze will stay open through Oct. 31 and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Along with the maze, the farm has two jump pads, a hay maze and hay pyramid, an apple train, a kid’s corn pit, mega slide, tire mountain, bubble barn, confusion maze, tractor rides and other activities.

The corn maze at Lyman Orchards opens on Aug. 30 with its pizza theme, including face about Connecticut pizza places and New Haven-style pizza. The maze is approximately 4 acres in size with over a mile of pathways. The average time to make it through the maze is approximately 30-40 minutes. Signage throughout the pathways feature educational content and trivia related to pizza. Starting in 2000, the maze is in its 26th year of operation. The mazes opens Saturday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. It will run through Nov. 2. The last Corn Maze entry for each day is 5:30 p.m.
Lyman Orchards will also be hosting an event strictly for adults. For select days in September and October, the corn maze will feature beer tastings from three Connecticut breweries. Guests will be able to arrive any time and meander into the maze. Bring boots and a flashlight and prepare to taste some good beer.
Finding their way through the corn maze is just part of the fun.

Fair Weather Growers turned 16 acres of their farm on Country Line Drive into a Fall Festival and Corn Maze. The maze will open in the middle of September and remain open through the end of October. The giant maze will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays along with Columbus Day.
