Golazos galore: Unbeaten UConn men’s soccer has SportsCenter Top 10 plays in back-to-back games

The UConn men’s soccer team is off to a torrid start, unbeaten in its first eight games of the season and entering a showdown at No. 11 Akron on Friday at 5-0-3 (W-L-D) on the season.

The Huskies are racking up the wins, and they’re also racking up the highlight-reel plays– having been featured on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays in back-to-back games.

First it was senior forward Austin Brummett‘s diving header against Colgate on Sept. 8 off of a cross from outside the box, which landed at No. 9 in the Top 10.

Two days later, senior midfielder Nicolas Tomerius hit a screamer from the top of the box into the top right corner of the net for an absolute golazo– and the No. 5 play of the night.

The Huskies won both games, beating Colgate 3-0 in Storrs and Brown 3-1 in Providence.

If UConn wins its next game against Akron, it would likely be enough to push the Huskies into the Top 25 rankings. UConn is currently in the ‘Others Receiving Votes’ category in the United Soccer Coaches’ poll.
