Hampton Roads weekend closings, cancellations

Due to forecasted winter weather, some facilities have announced closures and delays over the weekend.

Chesapeake

All parks, libraries, recreation and tourism and Chesapeake Animal Services facilities are closed Saturday and Sunday. All activities at these locations are canceled.

Christopher Newport University

The university will operate on a modified schedule. Dining hall Regattas will close early Saturday with last entry at 5:30 p.m. Einsteins will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. All other dining will be closed throughout the weekend. On Sunday, Regattas will be open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Torggler Center will be open until 5 p.m. Saturday and closed on Sunday. The Yuck Show at the Ferguson Center on Sunday will be cancelled and may be rescheduled. Parking lots B, C1, C2, D and the Ferguson Loop will be closed starting at 6 p.m. Sunday through 8 a.m. Monday. The top deck of the Ferguson parking garage will be closed. The Trieshmann Fitness Center will be open until 5 p.m. Saturday and will be closed Sunday. The Trible Library will be open with swipe access only Saturday night, beginning at 6 p.m. and remaining swipe access only until it returns to normal operations.

Hampton Roads Transit

HRT will end all services early on Saturday and will not operate on Sunday. On Monday, the transit system expects to implement a modified snow route schedule with limited service. On Saturday, service will end no later than 3 p.m.

The last westbound Tide light rail train will depart Newtown Road Station at 2:05 p.m., arriving at EVMC/Fort Norfolk Station at 2:31 p.m. The last eastbound train is scheduled to depart EVMC/Fort Norfolk at 2:11 p.m., arriving at Newtown Road Station at 2:37 p.m. The last Elizabeth River Ferry trip will depart Waterside Ferry Dock at 2:45 p.m. Paratransit, OnDemand Ridesharing and Base Express service at Naval Station Norfolk will end at 3 p.m.

Transit center information booths and all administrative facilities will be closed. The Customer Service Call Center will close at 3 p.m.

Newport News

Community centers close at noon Saturday and all centers and programs will be closed Sunday. The Newport News Park Office closes at noon Saturday.

All libraries will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter’s Adoption Center and Reunite Center will operate from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. The Reunite Center will be open Sunday from 12-2 p.m., conditions permitting.

The Recovery Operations Center will be open during normal hours Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For those seeking shelter, the Four Oaks Day Service Center at 7401 Warwick Blvd. will be open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide warming shelter and support services for indivviduals experiencing homelessness. The PORT Winter Shelter, for males, is open daily at 5:30 p.m. The current location is at All Generations Church at 28 Harpersville Road. During the winter storm, patrons will be allowed to stay at the PORT site, which will continue to operate there through Monday.

The Mariners’ Museum and Park will close at 3 p.m. on Saturday and remain closed Sunday and Monday.

Norfolk

All libraries, The Slover and recreation centers are closed Saturday.

Nauticus is open Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will close Sunday.

Alternative parking will be provided to residents for free. Gates will be raised at all city parking garages and surface parking lots, excluding the Cedar Grove Lot, until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Virginia Zoo is closed Saturday and Sunday.

Norfolk Botanical Garden will close this weekend. The Diversity Gallery Artist reception scheduled for Saturday has been postponed until Feb. 28.

Old Dominion University

The university will have modified operations on Saturday, January 31, 2026, starting at 5 p.m. More details on dining halls, student center, athletic events and more.

Suffolk

City facilities will be closed this weekend. The East Suffolk Recreation Center, Curtis Milteer Recreation Center, and Bennett’s Creek Recreation Center and all scheduled programming is canceled. Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Centers (Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland, Booker T. Washington, Mack Benn, Jr.) and all athletic league programming is canceled.

The city’s four major parks (Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole and Bennett’s Creek) are closed.

Public library locations (Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk) are closed.

The Suffolk Visitor Center, the Suffolk Art Gallery and the Suffolk Executive Airport are closed.

Virginia Beach

All city facilities, including recreation centers, libraries, the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center and Virginia Beach History Museums, will be closed this weekend.

For residents who need to move their vehicles out of flood-prone areas, four garages at Town Center will be available starting Friday evening. Parking is free, but the public is asked to avoid parking in reserved spaces at the Town Center garages as these spaces are leased by residents, and towing will be enforced: Maroon Garage (Apex Entertainment VB), Red Garage (Westin Hotel), Green Garage (Armada Hoffler Tower), Orange Garage (Clark Nexsen Tower).

To access the Winter Shelter Program this weekend, unsheltered single men should check in at PiN Ministry, 1164 Millers Lane, Suite A, by 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday. Unsheltered single women should check in at PiN Ministry by 4:30 p.m. Saturday to be transported to the Housing Resource Center. Starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, the HRC at 104 N. Witchduck Road will accept females any time during the storm. Families with children should call the Housing Resource Center, 757-385-5167, for information on the availability of shelter.

Virginia Peninsula Community College

Closes at 2 p.m. Saturday and remains closed Sunday. VPCC will operate on a remote basis Monday.

Williamsburg

Busch Gardens is closed Friday and Saturday. All date-specific tickets for Friday through Sunday will be automatically extended for use though March 8.
