Yard Goats 5, Flying Squirrels 2
The Hartford Yard Goats closed out their season with a 5-2 victory over Richmond on Sunday. Bryant Betancourt’s pinch-hit RBI single in the 10th proved to be the game-winner. Later in the inning, Julio Carreras smashed a double down the left field line, scoring Betancourt and Benny Montgomery to make it 5-2. The win gave Hartford a winning record on the year at 69-68, good for third in the Eastern League Northeast. The team will open next season April 2.
Athletic 4, Monterey Bay 0
Hartford’s incredible run continued Saturday night, as Athletic poured in three late goals, including two in stoppage time and two from Kyle Edwards, to blow past Monterey Bay, 4-0. Jack Panayotou and Sebastian Anderson also scored for Hartford. The club has only lost once in its last 14 games, and has surged to fifth in the USL Eastern Conference Standings. Hartford (10-5-9, W-D-L) also clinched a spot in the Jaegermeister Cup Final at Sacramento on Oct. 4 with a win last week.
