If you plan on driving on Interstate 64 this weekend, you should know about this ramp closure in Hampton.
Scheduled to begin as early as 9 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, the Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road on-ramp to I-64 east will be closed, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The ramp closure is part of ongoing construction of the Hampton Roads Express Lanes Hampton Segment and will allow for paving, guardrail installation and striping, VDOT said.

During the closure, a signed detour will direct traffic. To access I-64 east when the closure goes into effect:
Motorists traveling eastbound on Settlers Landing Road will be directed to Woodland Road, East Mercury Boulevard and Mallory Street to access the on-ramp.
Motorists traveling westbound on Woodland Road will be directed to Settlers Landing Road, Wine Street, East Queen Street and Eaton Street, then continue along the detour route on Woodland Road, East Mercury Boulevard and Mallory Street.
At the end of the ramp closure, crews will reopen the left (inside) lane on Settlers Landing Road east at the I-64 overpass, according to a release. Drivers will then have access to two through lanes on this section of Settlers Landing Road from downtown Hampton toward Woodland Road, along with a left-turn lane to access I-64 west at the I-64 overpass.
VDOT encourages motorists to use I-664 as an alternate route when possible and are reminded to use caution when traveling near work zones, obey posted speed limit signs, follow lane markings and barrier guides, be alert to digital message signs and drive distraction-free.
All work is weather- and schedule-dependent, according to VDOT, and is subject to change.
This work is part of the HREL Hampton Segment that includes converting the three existing east- and westbound general purpose lanes on I-64 into one express lane, one part-time express lane, and two general purpose lanes in each direction, according to VDOT. The project will widen the interstate, repave existing lanes and add a 12-foot-wide travel lane in each direction from west of Mallory Street (exit 268) to LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) for two miles. The two eastbound bridges over the Hampton River will be replaced and the westbound Hampton River bridge will be widened and rehabilitated.
