Health inspectors shut down 6 Central Florida restaurants last week

Six Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of Sept. 21-27, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Brevard

The Shack Riverfront LLC at 4845 Dixie Highway NE in Palm Bay shut down on Sept. 23. Inspectors found 30 violations, six of which were high priorities. Those violations included a trail of contaminated water running to the sewer drain, flying insects, roach activity and rodent activity. A second inspection occurred on Sept. 24. There were 22 violations, three of which were high priorities. The restaurant remained closed. A third, and final, inspection occurred the same day. There were 11 violations, two of which were high priorities for a missing vacuum breaker and contaminated water. A follow-up inspection is required, but the restaurant isn’t an immediate threat to the public.

Royal Sushi at 2301 State Road 524, Suite 145 in Cocoa shut down on Sept. 24. Inspectors found 22 violations, eight of which were a high priority. Those violations included flying insects, roach activity and raw food not separated from ready-to-eat food. A second inspection occurred on Sept. 25. Inspectors found four violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Orange

Jersey Mike’s Subs at 10208 Curry Ford Road, Suite #106 in Orlando shut down on Sept. 23. Inspectors found six violations, four of which were a high priority. Those violations included a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse, flying insects and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred on Sept. 24. There was one violation, a high priority for flying insects. The restaurant remained closed. A final inspection occurred on Sept. 25. There were no violations and the restaurant met inspection standards.

Clean bills of health: Which Central Florida restaurants had perfect inspections in August?

Hoffner Catering & Supply at 4880 B Distribution Court, Unit 1-2, in Orlando, shut down on Sept. 25. Inspectors found 33 violations, six of which were high priorities. Those violations included raw food not separated from ready-to-eat food, roaches, flying insects and food-contact surfaces not being sanitized after being cleaned. A second inspection occurred on Sept. 26. Inspectors found 22 violations, one of which was a high priority for food-contact surfaces not being sanitized. The restaurant received a time extension for the violation. A follow-up inspection is required, but the restaurant poses no immediate threat to the public.

Volusia

Stroud’s Hog Heaven at 37 N. Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach shut down on Sept. 23. Inspectors found four violations, two of which were high priorities for flying insects and rodent activity. A second inspection occurred on Sept. 24. There was one violation, but it wasn’t a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Osaka Sushi and Hibachi at 705 N. Dixie Freeway in New Smyrna Beach shut down on Sept. 23. Inspectors found 19 violations, five of which were high priorities. Those violations included improperly stored medicine, rodent activity, a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse and raw food not separated from ready-to-eat food. A second inspection occurred the same day. There were eight violations, two of which were high priorities. Officials issued time extensions for food held at the wrong temperatures and raw food not being separated from ready-to-eat food. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Total Inspections

Among all inspections across Central Florida, there were 4,259 violations total, including basic, intermediate and high violations.

Orange County had the most with 1,662, followed by Volusia with 849, Brevard with 639, Lake with 460, Seminole with 409 and Osceola with 240.
