Residents in Hellertown should boil their water or use bottled water after a water main break Thursday in the borough.
The borough posted a notice to residents about 3:45 p.m. Thursday that the Hellertown Borough Authority experienced a “significant” water main break in the system. It did not specify where the break happened.
In a later update that evening, the borough said the break was isolated and water levels were being restored.
The borough authority issued a boil water advisory because of the loss of positive pressure in potions of the system. Residents should boil water before drinking, using it in cooking or brushing their teeth.
Most of the service was restored to the borough by about 9:45 p.m. Some areas, such as ones in higher elevations, might not have their service restored until later Friday.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
