High School Football Week 7: This CT team is looking for revenge against a rival in key game

Last year, the New Britain football team started the season with a seven-game win streak, which came to an end at the hands of Glastonbury.

New Britain stumbled and lost its next game by a point to Manchester before righting itself and advancing to the Class LL playoffs for the second straight year.

The two CCC Tier 1 teams will face each other once again Thursday night, this time at New Britain.

Here are some games to watch this week:

Glastonbury (3-2) at New Britain (4-1), Thursday, 6 p.m., Veterans Stadium, New Britain

New Britain has gained confidence and experience over the last few years and despite losing a close game to Fairfield Prep, ranked No. 6 in the Courant’s state coaches poll, the Hurricanes are back on track after a win over Southington two weeks ago. New Britain is led by senior RB Jayden Allen, who has 113 carries for 1,013 yards and 17 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Billy Seymour, in his first year on varsity, has completed 33 of 61 passes for 573 yards and six touchdowns and has rushed for 393 yards and four TDs. “Last year, they ended our streak – we lost to them last year at their place,” New Britain coach Isaiah Boddie said. “We know they’re a great team and they’ll be prepared for us. We’re excited to get them at home this year.” Glastonbury is led by Dante Casdia, who is averaging 126 yards per game. This game also has playoff implications as New Britain is currently ranked fourth in Class LL and Glastonbury is fifth.

Berlin (5-0) at Newington (4-1), Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Newington is coming off a bye week while Berlin beat RHAM last week 48-0. Cody Puzio has passed for 10 touchdowns for Berlin and rushed for over 300 yards and six touchdowns. Carmine Rio has been his favorite target (seven touchdowns). Josiah Sims is averaging over 100 rushing yards per game for Newington and Heath Weeden leads the team defensively with 60 tackles.

Valley Regional/Old Lyme (4-1) at Cromwell/Portland (5-0), Friday, 6 p.m. at Pierson Park, Cromwell

Cromwell/Portland will try to extend its win streak as Valley Region tries to knock the Panthers out of the unbeaten ranks.

Northwest Catholic (5-0) at Bloomfield (3-2), Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Bloomfield is on a three-game win streak after dropping its first two games to Ansonia and Berlin. QB Cameron White has completed 29 of 64 passes for 503 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 309 yards and three TDs. Northwest, led by quarterback Vincent Burbank, who has passed for 1,240 yards and 15 touchdowns in five games, beat Rocky Hill 14-7 last week.
