High school football Week 8: Bloomfield, East Catholic to battle again

It’s Week 8 of high school football in Connecticut with a number of games being played Wednesday and Thursday, giving players and fans a chance to enjoy Halloween on Friday.

There are games with playoff implications, for example, Bloomfield and East Catholic, who face off in a crucial game between two teams jockeying for one of eight playoff spots in Class S

Here are some of the top games to watch:

Platt (4-2) at Southington (3-3), Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.: Southington has won two of its last three, including a 28-20 victory over Manchester last week. Platt has won four of five, including a 41-10 Week 7 win over Simsbury. Sophomore quarterback Jacoby Roman has rushed for 597 yards and eight touchdowns in four games, and in the win over Manchester he passed for 195 yards and three TDs. Both teams faced Glastonbury, with Platt squeaking out a 28-27 win in OT and Southington losing 41-35 in overtime.

Enfield (3-3) at Berlin (6-0), Thursday, 6:30 p.m. at Sage Park, Berlin: Berlin’s defense has only given up two touchdowns in its last three games. Senior QB Cody Puzio has thrown for 10 touchdown and run for eight more. Enfield racked up big points in a 62-54 win over East Hartford last week, snapping a three-game losing streak.

New Britain (5-1) at Maloney (5-1), Friday, 3:45 p.m. at Falcon Field, Meriden: New Britain eked out an overtime win over Glastonbury last week. Maloney’s tough stretch of schedule is coming up as the Spartans, whose only loss is to Fairfield Prep, have New Britain, Glastonbury, Southington and Platt over the next four weeks.

Bloomfield (4-2) at East Catholic (4-2), Saturday, 1:30 p.m. at Cheney Tech, Manchester: Bloomfield had a big win over Northwest Catholic last week, 16-14, and moved up into the top eight of the Class S rankings. East Catholic is currently ranked 11th and a win over Bloomfield would be big. Bloomfield QB Cameron White has 503 passing yards and five touchdowns and 411 rushing yards and three rushing TDS while teammate Javonni Reynolds has rushed for 395 yards and seven TDs. Bloomfield handed East Catholic both of its losses last season, including a 22-21 quarterfinal victory by the Warhawks that knocked East Catholic out of the playoffs.
