High school scoreboard: Both Catholic basketball teams earn key victories

#5 Catholic 74, Trinity Episcopal 70

One of Hampton Roads top teams, the Crusaders (24-3), beat one of the Richmond area’s top squads behind Carter Bullock’s 28 points and Dean Williams’ 24. Jon Lee added eight points. For the Titans, Kane Winiarski and Keaton Gregory scored 19 apiece.

Bay Rivers District

Smithfield 60, Jamestown 30

Led by Jaden Shearn’s 15 points and 10 rebounds for the night, the Packers (8-9) took a 29-12 halftime lead. JC Cypress had 14 points and five rebounds for Smithfield, and Tristan Morton had 12 points and six rebounds. Like many of their area counterparts, the Packers will be playing often to finish the regular season: in their case, six days in the next nine days.

Tabb 61, Gloucester 44

James Mueller had 16 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and two blocks for the Tigers. Jackson Houser added 20 points and six rebounds. Matthew Adams contributed eight points. For the Dukes, Landon Monroe scored 11 and William Trueblood 10.

Nondistrict

Deep Creek 74, Booker T. Washington 58

Julyan Morris led the Hornets with 16 points. Devon Polk tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ja’Zah Evans finished with 10 points. Bradley Barham finished with nine points. Jaishon Tale paced the Bookers with 17 points.

First Colonial 82, Lakeland 61

Sam Maloney and Noah Yatsu scored 24 and 23 points, respectively, for the Patriots. Tristan Davies had 13 points for First Colonial. For the Cavaliers, Sean Durham (12) and Josiah Joyner (10) scored in double digits.

Private schools

Greenbrier Christian Academy 76, OakTree Academy 71

David Bradley had 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Hayden Dunlow had 18 points and three assists for the Gators. Luke MacDermod provided 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Josh Schneider added nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Hampton Roads Academy 56, Summit Christian Academy 48

Mekhi Ward scored 19 and Graham Hutchens 14 for the visiting Navigators, who outscored the Eagles 21-12 in the final quarter. Summit’s Courtland Reiter poured in 24 points.

Peninsula Catholic 60, Atlantic Shores 55

Jordan Carr finished with 27 points and Anderson Allen had 13 for the Knights (19-7). Zion Denson led the Seahawks with 16 points.

Steward 78, Norfolk Christian 31

Ajian Skeete led the Ambassadors with 10 points, and Isiah Banks had four rebounds, three steals and nine points. Oliver Anderson had seven rebounds and three steals, and Christian Hines had four rebounds. Niles Mason led the victorious Spartans with 16 points.

#2 Menchville 96, Woodside 18

Maddie Leach had 33 points, five assists, five rebounds and seven steals for the Monarchs. Jordein Holder added 15 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. TaNya Henson provided 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals.

#3 Catholic 68, Potomac School 62

The Crusaders gained one of their best victories of the season behind Lauryn Loritts’ 16 points and 14 apiece from Riley Lynch and Justice Brown-Jones. Jones had three steals, Brown-Jones grabbed nine rebounds, and Siniyah Ross had 11 points and five assists.

#8 Norfolk Christian 87, Steward 69

Tamia Dyson scored 27 points, Brianna Norman 21 and Abuno Ruop 19 in a Tidewater Conference victory by the Ambassadors.

Nondistrict

Cox 36, Hickory 34

Kinley Bartley finished with nine points and six steals for the Falcons. Lainey Kimnach finished with nine points and helped anchor the defense. Piper Aman chipped in seven points.

Lakeland 66, First Colonial 34

Janae Carter’s 22 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists propelled the Cavaliers. Jada Durham had 11 points, eight steals and seven assists. Aubrianna Paiz had 10 points, and Leah Joyner had seven rebounds, five points and five blocks.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 32, Brunswick Academy 31

Sarah Carson led the Saints with 12 points.

Norfolk Collegiate 49, Atlantic Shores 19

Kylie Lorson led all scores with 15 points and eight rebounds. Erin Sullivan and Sanna Harris added eight points apiece.
