High school scoreboard: Nansemond River, Denbigh, Warhill boys earn key district basketball victories

Kevin Parker had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Patriots, and Victor George had 10 points and 12 rebounds. For the Bruins, Tre Williams had 18 points, Mason Faulkner 14 and Shane Brown 12.

Bay Rivers District

Tabb 62, Bruton 58

Jackson Houser produced 27 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers, who outscored the Panthers 16-10 in the fourth quarter. Also for Tabb, Micah Marbra had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Jake Siegel and James Mueller had eight points each. Cy Gresham scored 19 for Bruton, while Johnathan Hopkins had 14 points and Isaiah Randall 11.

Warhill 67, Lafayette 63

According to Lions coach Paul Hall, Warhill beat Lafayette (1-1) for the first time since 2016. Shamar McCray provided 11 points and 10 rebounds for Warhill (2-0), which had five double-digit scorers. After a 30-30 tie at halftime, the Lions outscored the Rams 26-10 in the third quarter. Warhill survived a Lafayette rally by making key free throws down the stretch.

Peninsula District

Heritage 66, Warwick 60

Mekhi Watkins scored 25 and Keshon Jackson 13 for the Hurricanes.

Nondistrict

Norfolk Collegiate 65, Norcom 58

Legend Bunch had 15 points and Gavin Mallette had 12 points and six assists for the Oaks (3-0), all of whose wins have come on the road. Josh Mills scored 13, Gavin Wright had 11 points, and Sam Naidyhorski had 11 points and six rebounds. Germain Green scored 30 for the Greyhounds.

Salem 65, Arcadia 57

Terrell Lewis had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Jason Patrick had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the SunDevils. Also for Salem, Myles Billups scored nine, Reggie Wilson eight and Haziyah Brown two. For the Eastern Shore’s Firebirds, Jordan Cropper scored 20 and Shane Tull 15.

Zuriel Pendleton-Morant led all scorers with 18 points and had 10 steals. Khloe Leonard had 16 points and Jiana Price had 15 points. For the Wolverines, Keila Wells and Ayanna Whiting scored nine apiece.

Cox 47, Tallwood 18

Nyomi Thomas scored a game-high 10 points and Jacey Seim added nine for the Falcons. Kennedy Lassiter led the Lions with six.

Peninsula District

Bethel 59, Denbigh 24

Aubree Bowman led with 17 points and Olivia Jones had 11.

Kecoughtan 74, Phoebus 30

Amora Jackson-Colon scored 29 points and Jordan Bryant chipped in 14 for the Warriors. India Hill netted 10 points for the Phantoms.

First Colonial 49, Hickory 43

Melody Deforno scored 16 points and MJ Haesler 14 for the Patriots.

Norfolk Collegiate 53, Norcom 23

Anya Beach led all scorers with 17 points and seven rebounds. Kylie Lorson had 14 points. Robin Roelink added seven points and seven rebounds.

Cape Henry Collegiate 55, Portsmouth Christian 16

Freshman Carmen Rivera had 16 points and four steals, and eighth-grader Noa Dorman had 13 points and five steals. Cali Rivera added 12 points, eight rebounds and seven steals. Brynn Johnson added 10 points.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 31, Summit Christian 21

The Saints outplayed the Eagles.
