#10 Nansemond River 61, Granby 53

Micaiah Mitchell had 22 points and eight rebounds for the Warriors. Taron Atwater added 18 points, and Quinton Cruse scored 15.

#14 Peninsula Catholic 58, Norcom 55

Jordan Carr took game MVP honors with 24 points, eight rebounds and five steals in the opener of the Lloyd “BBQ” Hicks Jr. Showcase at Heritage High. Anderson Allen finished with 19 points and six steals.

#15 Indian River 84, Phoebus 79

Also at the Lloyd “BBQ” Hicks Jr. Showcase, the Braves’ Chris Edwards took the game MVP award after scoring 32 points. Jordan Sheppard added 21 and Marcellus Connor 14 for Indian River. For the Phantoms, Noah Elliott scored 23 and Lincoln Thompson 18.

Nondistrict

First Colonial 72, Great Bridge 56

Tristan Davies scored 21 points and Noah Yatsu had 14 to lead four Patriots in double figures. Sam Maloney had 12 points and Brayden Brinkley 10. For the Wildcats, Darian Edge netted 11 points and Chase Blachford nine.

Tabb 76, Nandua 39

James Mueller had 25 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and four blocks for the Tigers against the Eastern Shore’s Warriors. Jackson Houser had 15 points and 5 rebounds. Micah Marbra and Matthew Adams contributed nine points each for Tabb.

Western Branch 73, Maury 51

Jaden Walker’s 19 points and 10 rebounds and Markel Smith’s 15 points propelled the Bruins at the Hoopfest in Norfolk. Camryn Clark scored 13 and Brandon Rodgers 12 for Western Branch. Maury, held to just 31% field-goal shooting (19 of 61) and mired in a 36-15 halftime deficit, got 14 points from Daevon Reed and 13 from Kymoni Johnson.

Norfolk Collegiate 69, Norfolk Academy 42

The Oaks (7-3) won their TCIS opener behind Sam Naidyhorski’s 15 points and seven rebounds, Legend Bunch’s 14 points and six assists, and 11 points apiece from Gavin Mallette and Josh Mills. Archer Cutter and Isaac Zito paced the Bulldogs with nine points each.

Veritas Collegiate Academy 66, Cristo Rey 56

Falcon Green’s 35 points and Tailon Wray’s 16 guided the Spartans past a Richmond opponent.

The Cavaliers (11-0) romped over a Northern Virginia foe at the VA Mid-Atlantic Girls Basketball Showcase in Highland Springs as Micah Ojo sank four 3-pointers and finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, six steals, two blocks and two assists. Also for Darnell Dozier’s nationally ranked team, Jizelle James connected on a trio of 3-pointers and had 19 points, two rebounds, four steals and four assists. Tristan Rickenbacker had 12 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Bishop Ireton 66, #3 Menchville 54

Maddie Leach scored 20 points and Nevaeh Reid added 12 for the Monarchs, but they lost to a powerhouse from Alexandria at the VA Mid-Atlantic Girls Basketball Showcase in Highland Springs. Nina McEldon had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Cardinals, who are ranked 10th in the D.C. area by The Washington Post.

#4 Norfolk Christian 77, Riverdale Baptist (Maryland) 70

Tamia Dyson’s 34 points and four steals helped the Ambassadors defeat a traditionally strong squad. Brianna Norman had 22 points and three steals, and Abuna Ruop provided 21 points and 12 rebounds.

#9 Deep Creek 48, John Marshall 29

Morgan Herbert scored 16 points and Sophya Webb added 11 for the Hornets (6-2) against the Justices from Richmond.

Allie Tyszko had 11 points for the Bulldogs, and Eliza Everett added 12 rebounds.
