House fire in Norfolk leaves 8 people without a place to stay

NORFOLK  — A fire has caused eight people, including three children, to be forced out of their home, according to a release from the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.

The fire happened in the 6400 block of Sedgefield Drive. This block has single-family homes and is near Tidewater Drive. The people who are without a place to stay are requesting assistance from the Red Cross.

Crew from Norfolk Fire and Rescue responded to the fire at about 12:30 p.m. There was smoke coming from the front door of a one story home and crews heard there was still one disabled person inside.

Upon arrival, units immediately initiated rapid search and rescue and removed the person from the home through a window. The person was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
