Hurricanes stick near top of the AP poll

The Miami Hurricanes were off again this week, but it did not affect their spot in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll.

In fact, Miami, which remains ranked second in the AP poll, moved up one spot in two other polls and is now ranked second in three major polls. The Hurricanes are now also No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and the FWAA-NFF Super 16.

Miami received 13 first-place votes in the AP poll, eight first-place votes in the Super 16 and two first-place votes in the coaches poll.

UM has been the No. 2 team in the nation for three of the past four weeks, which is their best stretch at that position or better since 2003, when the Hurricanes were No. 2 for eight consecutive weeks.

Miami is the only one of Florida’s “Big 3” teams to earn a spot in the rankings this week. FSU dropped out after losing to Pittsburgh at home — its third loss in a row.

The ACC has three ranked teams: Miami, Georgia Tech and Virginia. The Hurricanes do not have another ranked team on the schedule as of this week. UM faces Louisville (4-1), which received votes in this week’s coaches poll, on Friday night.
