Age: 39
Job: Senior vice president, commercial banker, TowneBank
At work: My specialization is in floor plan and dealership-related financing. In this role, I serve as a one-stop financial partner for our members, working closely with business owners to support every aspect of their banking relationship.
Home and family: While I was born and raised in Norfolk, I currently live in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake with my wife, Jessica, our 3-year-old daughter, Evie, and 1-year-old twins, Patrick and Sloane, as well as my bonus kids, Jocelyn (16), Daxton (14) and Joella (12).
Volunteer activities: I serve on the board and finance committee for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia, where I’ve been a volunteer for several years. I’m a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3548, which serves the Ocean View community in Norfolk, and treasurer for Norfolk Parade Inc., the organization responsible for planning and executing the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ocean View.
Motivating factor: I genuinely enjoy helping people and cultivating meaningful relationships. There’s nothing more rewarding than partnering with our members as they grow their businesses and witnessing their success as they achieve their financial goals.
Advice to young people: Work hard at everything you do. While others may have stronger skills in certain areas, your work ethic and preparation are entirely within your control — and they make all the difference.
Professional goal in five years: To maintain and expand the relationships I have with my members. In an ever-changing regulatory environment, I hope to continue to be flexible and creative to help my members adapt — and thrive — in shifting landscapes.
The one thing I’d change about Hampton Roads: Traffic and what feels like continuous road construction can be extremely frustrating at times, though I acknowledge it could be worse.
Region’s biggest asset: I feel that our proximity to water and the direct connection to the ports/shipyards as well as the military presence in our area are our biggest assets. Each of these are major employers in Hampton Roads and during economic downturns, the steadiness of the federal government provides stability to our regional economy.
Downtime: With three little ones under the age of 3, there is not much downtime, but I can’t imagine it any other way and wouldn’t change it for anything. I’m a big sports guy, huge Notre Dame football fan, so outside of work and spending time with my family, most of my downtime is spent watching or following some sort of sporting event.
What really gets under my skin: People who don’t put their shopping cart back where it belongs, or drivers who don’t acknowledge when you let them over in traffic, really bother me. Neither takes much effort and while they are small gestures, both really say something about a person.
