JAMES CITY — A James City County man has been charged in connection with the death of an infant earlier this month, police said Friday.

The infant died Sept. 7, the same day emergency crews responded to a early morning report of an unresponsive infant in the 3000 block of North Riverside Drive. The child was pronounced dead at Sentara Williamsburg Medical Center.

Jacob Colby Cunningham, 34, turned himself in at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail Thursday night and was charged with involuntary manslaughter, police said. He was released on bond.

Police would not release any further details, including Cunningham’s relationship to the infant, the infant’s age or cause of death.
