Class 5

Ocean Lakes’ Kaylee Bell tied for second place in the VHSL Class 5 championship tournament at Bristow Manor Golf Club in Prince William County.

She fired an even-par 72, sharing runner-up honors with John Champe High’s Matthew Pack on a challenging day for Hampton Roads teams.

Though the 757 comprised half of the eight teams and about half of the 60 entrants, Bell was the only area competitor in the top 10.

Ocean Lakes (324), Cox (325), Menchville (354) and Nansemond River (389) finished fifth through eighth, trailing champion Riverside (303) of Northern Virginia, Deep Run (309) and third-place-sharing Midlothian (317) and Briar Woods (317).

Douglas Freeman’s Ben Cowgill won the medal at 2-under 70. Besides Bell, other top finishers from southeastern Virginia included Ocean Lakes’ Zack Chincuanco (77, tied for 11th) and Cox teammates Trevor Eubanks (79, T-17), Maddox Johnson (81, T-22) and Charlie Braithwaite (81, T-22).

The Dukes finished at 14-over-par 298, one shot behind champion Graham of southwest Virginia. Lee High of Jonesville was third at 305.
