Following a 0-3 start, the Jets will try to defeat the Dolphins in Miami for the first time in 11 years.
The last time Gang Green defeated Miami at Hard Rock Stadium was Rex Ryan’s final game as coach in 2014.
Since then, the Jets have lost nine consecutive road games to the Dolphins. The Jets defeated the Dolphins in 2015, but the game was held in London, not at Hard Rock Stadium.
Both teams enter Monday’s game winless and without a defensive takeaway. The Commanders are the only other team that comes into Week 4 without registering a takeaway this season.
Expectations weren’t high for the Jets this season with a new coach in Aaron Glenn and quarterback in Justin Fields. But I’m not sure many Jets fans envisioned possibly leaving the month of September without a win.
Before a critical AFC East game, let’s answer some questions from the fans.
Is the 2026 starting QB for the #Jets on their roster now? -@JetsMets4Life
It is difficult to say now, as we have only seen Fields in seven and a half quarters of football for the Jets. He played arguably his best career NFL game against the Steelers in Week 1.
Fields was accurate and used his legs to create plays for his receivers. He completed 16-of-22 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown. Fields also rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns in the 34-32 loss to the Steelers.
However, that success would be short-lived, as Fields had the worst game of his career the following week against the Bills. He completed 3-of-11 passes for 27 yards and lost a fumble in the 30-10 loss. Fields also suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter and missed the following week’s game against the Buccaneers.
It appears Fields will play against the Dolphins this week, provided he passes all five steps of concussion protocol. He has 14 games to prove to the Jets coaching staff that he can be their quarterback for the present and the future.
However, it remains to be seen if Fields can be the long-term plan at quarterback. Having a 0-3 record certainly doesn’t help matters, as the Jets would have a top-three pick if the season ended today.
I’m not going to close the book on Fields entirely right now. But in order to remain the starting quarterback beyond 2025, he needs to be more consistent and return to the player he was against the Steelers.
Is the defense salvageable for the remainder of the season? -@Yoc_Star
The most disappointing aspect of the Jets’ season this year hasn’t been Fields or the offense in general. It has been the defense after Glenn and Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks took over a unit that was among the best in the NFL for each of the previous three seasons.
In three games, the Jets have gone from one of the best defenses to one of the worst. They rank 22nd in yards (340.3) and are tied for 29th in points allowed (31). The Jets are on pace to give up 527 points this season, which is alarming considering they allowed 404 last year during a 5-12 finish.
The defense is salvageable so long as the tackling improves. In the loss against the Buccaneers, the Jets missed 16 tackles, according to Pro Football Focus. That helped Tampa Bay march right down the field, and helped Chase McLaughlin make a 36-yard field goal as time expired for the win.
The Jets couldn’t even take advantage of a depleted Buccaneers offensive line, which was missing three starters last week. The defensive line recorded just one sack and two pressures against Baker Mayfield.
If the Jets are going to turn their season around, their defense needs to return to an elite level.
[What’s the] likelihood of Breece [Hall] being traded at the deadline?-@criswilson02
Depending on the Jets’ record at the trade deadline, it is very possible.
The rumors of Hall being traded date back to April’s draft. After a solid Week 1 performance against the Steelers in which he rushed for 107 yards, Hall had disappointing games against the Bills and Buccaneers. He combined for a total of 50 yards the last two weeks and averaged 2.6 yards per carry.
Hall is a free agent following the 2025 season. If the Jets want to move on from Hall or believe there’s no chance of re-signing him, why not get a possible fourth-round pick for him?
A team like the Commanders could use a running back like Hall after losing Austin Ekeler for the season due to a torn Achilles. Also, trading Hall would provide an opportunity to see if Braelon Allen could be the feature running back moving forward. If the losses continue to pile up, I would certainly consider moving on from Hall.
