Jutras, Guadano, Morey win Red Bull Quicksand titles

Dustin Jutras (men’s solo), Millie Guadano (women’s solo) and Rob Morey (GoRuck Division) took first-place awards in the annual Red Bull Quicksand race at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. More than 215 runners battled shifting sands and steep dunes in heat races and the finals.

Oscar Tello and Greg Doluca finished 2-3 in the men’s race, Caroline Eggert and Baily Doluca were 2-3 in the women’s, and Semeon Jaganov and William Garbett were 2-3 in the GoRuck. Anastasia Donchenko was the top GoRuck female finisher.

No. 20 CNU handles Regent

Christopher Newport (8-1-4), ranked 20th in Division III, celebrated its Senior Day with a 6-1 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference victory over Regent (3-8).

Ryan Buckon, Colin Skwirut, Barry Jones, Bilal Hawa, Shaurya Thakur and Caleb Lewis scored for the Captains, who outshot the Royals 23-10. Drew Thomas scored in the 49th minute for Regent.

ODU rallies for victory at Ga. Southern

Old Dominion (8-1-4, 4-0-3 Sun Belt) overcame a halftime deficit for a 2-1 victory at Georgia Southern (2-9-4, 0-4-3). Andrea Balcazar Algarin assisted Kellam High graduate Dylan McEntarfer’s goal in the 64th minute and scored the go-ahead goal in the 68th. Ashley Economopoulos assisted the winning goal.

Va. Wesleyan dusts Averett

Virginia Wesleyan (9-2-2, 4-1-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) zoomed past Averett 6-0 in Virginia Beach, outshooting the visitors 44-0.

Alaina Alston, Shyenne Diaz, Alexis Manfredi, Keira Mulvihill, Kaylyn Seitz and Courtney Mills scored. The Cougars dropped to 1-9-1, 0-5.

No. 19 VWU goes to 20-0

Virginia Wesleyan, ranked an all-time high 19th in Division III, increased its season-opening winning streak to 20 matches with a 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-18) triumph over Stevenson in Salisbury, Maryland.

VWU’s Niya Nash had 38 assists and 10 digs, while Hannah Smith had eight kills, five aces and 11 digs. Smith is the reigning ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, and teammate Breana Brooks is the Defensive Player of the Week.

W&M again falls in 5 sets

For the second day in a row, William & Mary (6-11, 1-5) lost a 3-2 match to CAA title contender Towson (17-2, 8-0) at Kaplan Arena. Saturday’s score was 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 15-6 despite 17 kills from the Tribe’s Devereaux Hoxsie and 14 kills and seven digs from Nicole Smith.

Friday, Towson rallied for a 19-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-15, 15-11 victory.

W&M women defeat UMBC, Navy

William & Mary’s women began their dual season by winning 203-90 over host Maryland Baltimore County and 169-124 against Navy. The Tribe men’s team lost 147-146 to UMBC and 192-93 to Navy.
