Kelvin, Keon Davis to headline April 4 fight card in their native Norfolk

Kelvin, Keon Davis on April 4 card at ODU

Two of the three fighting Davis brothers will perform April 4 in their hometown of Norfolk.

That’s according to the third brother – former lightweight titleholder and current junior welterweight contender Keyshawn Davis.

“DB3 brothers are throwing our first show under our own DB3 Promotions,” Keyshawn wrote on social media, as chronicled in a story by David Greisman on boxingscene.com.

Kelvin Davis, 15-1 with eight knockouts, will be in the main event at Old Dominion’s Chartway Arena, which has a capacity of about 9,500. Kelvin, a 29-year-old junior welterweight, is coming off his first defeat, a majority decision won by Nahir Albright this past June at Scope.

Keon Davis, 4-0 with three KOs, will be in the co-feature. The 24-year-old welterweight scored a second-round knockout of Michael A. Velez-Garcia on the June Scope card.

Kelvin’s and Keon’s opponents have not been announced. Keyshawn, 14-0 with 10 KOs, is not on the card. He dominated Jamaine Ortiz and won via 12th-round technical knockout Jan. 31 at Madison Square Garden.

Boston College’s Hand leaves game with injury

Landstown High graduate Donald Hand Jr. exited his Boston College team’s 70-64 home loss Wednesday night to Stanford with 7:45 left in the first half. He went down on the court after his jumper was blocked, then walked off with assistance behind him and went straight to the locker room.

He returned to the BC bench in street clothes early in the second half.

Eagles coach Earl Grant said he did not know the severity of the injury, but said Hand was moving around after the game and was scheduled to have an MRI Thursday.

Hand has started in all 23 of the Eagles’ games this season and has averaged 34.2 minutes, 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, as well as recording three blocks and 12 steals.

UNC star fractures hand

North Carolina freshman star forward Caleb Wilson will be out indefinitely with a fractured left hand he suffered in Tuesday night’s loss at Miami. He leads the Tar Heels with 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

UVA’s White makes watch list for 3-point shootout

Virginia’s Jacari White was selected for the watch list for the college 3-point shooting championship April 3 in Indianapolis.White leads UVA in 3-point shooting at 44.6% and ranks 13th in the ACC at 2.2 3-point baskets per game.

Big South, Southern conferences set series

The Big South and Southern conferences announced a new two-year scheduling series beginning in 2026-27 that will feature 18 men’s games and 18 women’s matchups played on selected dates each season. Matchups and game dates will be determined by agreement of both commissioners.

UVA’s Elliott reveals promotions on staff

Coach Tony Elliott announced the promotions of ShaDon Brown to cornerbacks coach and Joey Orck to offensive line coach. The program will also welcome back Jonathan Celestin as the assistant defensive backs coach and add Landon Martin as assistant offensive line coach.

Brown is in his second season at UVA after serving four years as a co-defensive coordinator at West Virginia. Orck enters his fifth year at UVA; he fills the void left by Terry Heffernan, who was recently named the offensive coordinator at Stanford.

Celestin, a former NFL linebacker, returns to UVA after spending the 2025 season as the linebackers coach at UAB. He was on Elliott’s staff as a graduate assistant for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Martin was the offensive line coach at his alma mater, Newberry, from 2021-23.

Film on Vick gains nomination for ESPN

A short film spotlighting Norfolk State coach Michael Vick has earned national recognition, as ESPN received an NAACP Image Awards nomination for its feature on Vick during College Gameday.

The project, College Gameday: Michael Vick, was nominated in the category Outstanding Short Form Series or Special – Reality/Nonfiction/Documentary, recognizing powerful storytelling that highlights impact, culture, and leadership. This category is open to public voting through today.

NSU opens softball, baseball seasons at home

Norfolk State opens the softball season Friday, hosting Rider at 1 p.m. and Central Connecticut State 3 p.m. for the Spartan Clash. Play will continue Saturday with rematches against Rider at 2 and CCSU at 4.

Meanwhile, the Norfolk State baseball team begins its first season under head coach M.L. Morgan with a home game at 3 p.m. Friday versus Towson, starting a three-game series.
