King William begins going through pool of county administrator applications

KING WILLIAM — King William County has received 25 applications for its vacant position of county administrator following the resignation of Stacey Davenport over the summer.

Interim County Administrator Clarence Monday told the Board of Supervisors on Sept. 8 that there had been “a great response” to the call for applicants.

The county’s recruiters, Kimball Payne and Libby Gooden of the Berkley Group, are conducting initial interviews and screenings ahead of a special meeting on Oct. 6 between board members and the recruitment team.

“They will look at the candidate profiles to determine the qualifications. They’ll match that to see how good a fit it is,” Monday said. An analysis of all the candidates will be available to board members by early October, he said.

King William is again seeking a county administrator following the abrupt resignation of Davenport in June after less than 12 months in the position. No reason was given for Davenport’s departure, but issues with the budget have continued to dog the county.

Monday was hired as interim county administrator in June. He is an executive manager of the Berkley Group, a group of local government consultants.

Davenport took over from Percy Ashcraft, who resigned in August 2024. Ashcraft was hired after the departure of former county administrator Bobbie Tassinari in early 2021.
