Here is a roundup of Friday night’s top Lehigh Valley high school football games in Week 2.
Easton 36, Spring-Ford 3
Easton went up 8-0 after moving the ball 80 yards with all runs in just four plays. Senior Chris Martinez scored on a 36-yard touchdown run and then Kurtis Crossman converted the 2-point conversion. Spring-Ford cut the lead to 8-3 as senior Ryan Reavy hit a 33-yard field goal. In the second quarter, Cole Ordway scored a one-yard touchdown to extend the Red Rovers’ lead to 15-3. Easton extended its lead on a two-yard shovel pass for a touchdown from Ordway to Justin Cosover. In the third quarter, Ordway broke a 26-yard touchdown run to make it 29-3. Ordway’s second touchdown pass of the night, this one to Skyler Fowlin, made it 36-3. The Red Rovers’ defense dominated all night, and Easton moved to 2-0 on the year.
Nazareth 62, Whitehall 33
In the first quarter, Peyton Falzone found Marquez Wimberly for a 13-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Falzone extended the Blue Eagles’ lead to 14-0 on a touchdown run. In the second quarter, Whitehall got on the board as Tanner Dogmanits found Rocco Fonzone for a touchdown. However, Nazareth and Falzone answered right back. Falzone found Wimberly again to give the Blue Eagles a 21-7 lead. Falzone then accounted for his fourth touchdown of the night, this being his second rushing score, to give Nazareth a 28-7 lead. Dogmanits’ second touchdown pass of the night cut the lead to 28-14 at the half.
In the third quarter, Whitehall got within 7 as Dogmanits scored on a quarterback sneak. However, Falzone’s third touchdown pass of the night, this one to Matt Leluga, extended the Blue Eagles’ lead to 35-21. Whitehall’s Jeziah Gregory scored a short touchdown to cut the lead to 35-27, but again, Nazareth had an answer. This time it was a 20-yard touchdown run from Will Bacolo and Nazareth led 42-27.
Falzone scored another rushing touchdown, this one a one-yard score, and Nazareth led 49-27, still in the third quarter. Bacolo’s second rushing touchdown of the night made it 55-27. With 8:08 left in the game, Gregory scored on a short TD run to make 55-33, but Wimberly’s 38-yard touchdown run set the final score at 62-33.
Palisades 17, Saucon Valley 0
After a back and forth first quarter, the teams went into the second tied 0-0. Palisades missed a 41-yard field goal attempt and then Saucon Valley also missed a 40-yard field goal, and the teams went into the half tied 0-0.
Palisades took a 7-0 lead with 2:02 left in the third quarter on Max Woerner’s two-yard score. In the fourth, Palisades extended its lead on Blake Oglialoro’s 28-yard field goal. Woerner extended the lead to 17-0 with three-yard run. The Palisades defense dominated the rest of the game.
Bethlehem Catholic 35, Emmaus 14
Becahi’s Cayden Vassa started the scoring with a 17-yard touchdown run, giving the Golden Hawks a 7-0 lead. The game remained 7-0 into the second until Vassa broke an 87-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0. Emmaus answered with a 49-yard TD run from Jerek Cooper to cut the lead to 14-7. Vassa found Carter Vassa for a 26-yard score to extend Becahi’s lead to 21-7 before the half.
On the second play of the third quarter, Vassa broke another long run, this time a 55-yard score to make it 28-7. Emmaus cut the lead to 28-14 after Cooper’s second touchdown of the night. However, Vassa’s big night continued, and a 66-yard touchdown run made it 35-14.
