Let Trump pay for airport renaming | Letters to the editor

I think it is ludicrous and ridiculous that the taxpayers could be responsible for more than $5.5 million to change the name of Palm Beach International Airport to Donald J. Trump Airport.

If Trump wants to put his name on something, let him pay for it himself!

Crammed down our throats

The Sun Sentinel reports that it will require, conservatively, close to $6 million to alter PBIA, if a bad bill proposed by Republicans succeeds in cramming an unnecessary law down the throats of Florida’s largest counties.

Renaming the airport is a major affront to Palm Beach and Broward residents, a majority of whom oppose it, because we enjoy, perhaps love, our PBIA just as it is. HB 919 and Bill SB 706 in the Florida Legislature must be vigorously opposed by residents of the two counties.

Every Floridian who opposes this legislative power grab should let their representatives know. If the bill becomes law, I urge the county not to spend a dime to remodel, renovate or change signage at PBIA unless the state government advances the full cost of this unwanted name change. Simply put, the small-town bumpkins from North Florida who support this idea should be made to pay for it.

Costly weight-loss drugs

Say it isn’t so!

Was $12 million in Broward taxpayers’ funds being spent to benefit only 2,216 employees of the Broward County School District for weight loss medications — as reported by The Sun Sentinel?

Have diet, exercise, and self-contol become obsolete? Suggestion: Eat less and move around more without high drug costs and their side effects.

It’s all too disgusting

Whomever in their infinite wisdom gave Donald Trump immunity to do what he wants, without accountability, should leave our country. The second to go should be the person to whom this immunity was granted.

Those who took an oath to protect our Constitution should stand up straight and take a long hard look in the mirror at what they’re responsible for and do what they are supposed to do.

A third-world country would not allow its supposed President to permit citizens to be shot in the face for no reason except they are wearing a mask and have a gun to do whatever they want, for NO reason. And with the election looming large in November, we may have to act like citizens of Germany and carry paper work to cast a vote.

This must stop. I cannot wrap my head around those who continue to bow down to please a person who only cares about how many places will bear his name. This must stop. Come to your senses. Stop the inhumane actions that are taking place. Do something that will save our  country — not his place in history.

No Las Olas without the trees

Regarding the opinion essay by Fort Lauderdale Vice Mayor John Herbst: The Las Olas trees are not sick and they are not dying.

People have said, don’t destroy the trees. They are lush, green and full of life. Birds and their nests are alive in an ecosystem of life and oxygen.

Those trees need to be saved. There is no Las Olas without the median trees.

City leaders go against what citizens want. There have been protests and many calls and emails to the city, asking for the trees to not be destroyed. Why isn’t there any discussion about moving them somewhere else?

Shame on the mayor and commssioners of Fort Lauderdale.
