Letters: Bad Bunny show was freedom in action — or misleading and deceptive, plus history and executions

Bad Bunny show was ‘freedom ringing’

The continued controversy over the Bad Bunny Super Bowl performance baffles me. Though it may be debated, we still live in a democracy where we are still free to decide our own likes and dislikes. We are free to speak in whatever language we prefer. The halftime Super Bowl organizers were free to decide who would perform the halftime show and we are free to watch or not. Everyone has choices. It is really that simple, and it is very American. There really should be no controversy at all.

Personally, I am hoping that Japanese singer-songwriter, Ayumi Hamasaki, will be engaged for next year’s Super Bowl halftime performance.

Halftime didn’t impress

I could not resist making a comment on your Democratic leftist propaganda. The ugliness you imply caused by the Trump administration was caused by Joe Biden allowing millions of foreigners to cross through the borders breaking immigration laws and process. The options available were to ignore the problem or remove the illegals. These illegal immigrants are not being removed because of skin color, many are white and Caucasian.

Before you think I am ignorant of Puerto Rico let me give you my background: I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I served in the U.S. Army for 26 years. My father was born in mountainous Naranjito, Puerto Rico. I was raised speaking Spanish and English and learned French in high school. We spoke correct Castilian Spanish at home.

I believe your statement on the administration breaking promises to Latinos is completely false. The promises made to Latinos were they would be allowed entry by going through proper immigration laws.

You made accusations of crimes by the president against Latino voters. What crimes?

Bad Bunny’s halftime music was terrible. It looked like the trombone players faked playing. Spanish speakers did not understand the words spoken.

To finish these remarks, your editorial gives me the impression you did not view the halftime show.

Why focus on executions?

I don’t understand the Sentinel’s focus, almost fascination, concerning executions. It’s been going on for a number of years. Every single person got a sentence by a jury of their peers. It is not the governor’s problem “how” they ended up on death row. He is just carrying out the decision of the jury. Blame should be on the offender and more attention, and print, should be brought on the true crimes that got them to this ultimate result. The death row inmate is not the victim.

Hindsight provides clarity

So here is a thought. Had Trump won the 2020 election, we would have been done with him.
